Restaurants are a vital part of any downtown area.
Since that includes Spencer, which has 11 restaurants in and around its downtown, Spencer Main Street is celebrating Main Street Iowa Restaurant Week until Sunday. It’s the second year Main Street Iowa has held the promotional week.
Spencer Main Street Executive Director Nancy Naeve said the week, which began Sept. 14, spreads the word about Spencer’s downtown eateries and gives people incentives for dining.
“Every time you eat out at one of the 11 participating restaurants, we’re going to give you a little sheet and you can register – all it takes is your name, phone number, email, if you want to give us that – and then you are registering to win a $20 gift card to that restaurant,” she said. “The grand prize is $20 gift cards to all 11 restaurants.”
Naeve said it’s important to support downtown restaurants.
“If we’ve got people we want to shop, live and work downtown, well if we don’t have any places for them to grab something to eat, or a coffee, or a donut or whatever, people won’t want to come downtown. It is such an important element in any thriving downtown to have all of these restaurants.”
Also, she added, Spencer’s main stretch has a ton of variety.
“You have home-cooking, you have ethnic with the Mexican and Chinese restaurants,” she said. “Hy-Vee Kitchen has – you name it. It’s got a salad bar, meat and potatoes, anything you could possibly want.
The participating restaurants are:
- The Bear Coffeehouse and Wine Bar
- Chen’s Garden
- Godfather’s Pizza
- Grand Lunchbox
- Hy-Vee Kitchen
- Jimmy John’s
- Pizza Ranch
- Sisters Main Street Cafe
- Taqueria el Tapatio
- Terrazzo Coffeehouse
With the final weekend of Restaurant Week upon us, Naeve encourages people to get out and dine out.
“The more you eat out this week, the better your chances are to win,” she said.
This week, it really could pay to eat downtown.
