The Spencer Tigers volleyball team returned from Storm Lake with a victory Tuesday night, sweeping the Tornadoes.
Spencer took the three seats by scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-22. With the win, Spencer improves to 3-19 this season. Storm Lake fell to 3-15.
Coach Karl Reiter said the team played a clean game with few mistakes.
“It was a good team win,” he said. “Our serve receive passing rebounded quite well and we were able to control the ball and run our offense. And we definitely needed it because Storm Lake has a good big block. Due to our passing we were able to run our middles and spread out their block which opened up our offense.”
Reiter added the team made strides in other areas since their last outing.
“Our defense improved a little, allowing us a lot of transition opportunities and lastly I was pleased with our serving,” he said.
Reiter pointed to performances by seniors Leah Heikens and Marissa Salton.
“Our middles deserve a lot of credit for working hard and being available,” he said.
Heikens and senior Julia Feldmann led the Tigers with seven kills each. Feldman also led the team with 10 digs.
Salton contributed six kills, while senior Amber Wirtz had four.
Seniors Josie Heisinger and Madie Jensen had six and five digs, respectively.
Next up for the Tigers is a home matchup with Cherokee. The Braves are 21-5.
