Traffic stop near Royal leads to marijuana, paraphernalia possession arrest

A Sioux City man was arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and other charges Thursday morning following a traffic stop just east of Royal.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported the traffic stop was initiated in the 1600 mile of County Highway B40 on a vehicle for speeding.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Casey Mote, 35. He was driving on a suspended license for nonpayment of Iowa fines, according to the sheriff’s office.

In addition, Mote was wanted for three active Woodbury County warrants.

During the stop, Mote consented to a search of the vehicle and marijuana and paraphernalia were discovered.

Mote faces charges of with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, driving while suspended and speeding.

Mote was taken to the Clay County Jail, where he was held on a $6,000 bond from Woodbury County and a $1,000 bond on the Clay County Charges.

The case remains under investigation.
