A Spencer Police Department officer deployed a Taser on a minor in the Spencer High School parking lot last Friday night during an investigation into a reported disturbance.
In a press release, police were called to investigate the disturbance at about 8:15 p.m., which would have been during the Spencer varsity boys home basketball game against Storm Lake.
While investigating, police tried to detain a 17-year-old minor from Spencer.
“The minor became combative, attempted to flee, and refused to comply with the lawful commands of the officer,” the press release states.
An officer deployed a Taser and the minor was taken into custody.
The minor was then taken to the Spencer Police Department and later released to parents pending a juvenile referral.
