An Urbandale man suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to Sioux City after an accident last week in the 1000 mile of Highway 10 in Clay County.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported 73-year-old Kenneth Petersen, Urbandale, was driving a 2013 Lincoln MKX at about 6 p.m. December 8 when he entered the north ditch and struck a field drive, sending the vehicle into the air.

The vehicle came down on its front end in a field, rolled onto the passenger side and slid about 50 feet before coming to rest.

Petersen suffered serious injuries and was transported to Cherokee Regional Medical Center. He was later flown by Life Flight helicopter to Sioux City.

The vehicle reportedly sustained more than $15,000 in damages.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Peterson Fire and Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol.
