Sheriff’s office arrests Spencer man for domestic assault, child endangerment

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Spencer man early Saturday morning for domestic assault and three counts of child endangerment after responding to a reported domestic assault in progress.

According to a press release, the sheriff’s office and Spencer Police Department both responded to the report in the 3600 block of 240th Avenue in Spencer at about 1:40 a.m. on January 5.

After responding, the sheriff’s office determined Robert Sports, 38, of Spencer, had assaulted an adult female victim, causing bodily injury.

Sports also assaulted a minor child in the residence, the report stated. No injuries to the child were reported.

Spencer police located and arrested Sports for OWI.

The sheriff’s office charged Sports with three separate counts of child endangerment, aggravated misdemeanors, and domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor.

Sports, according to the report, was held in jail to appear before the magistrate.
