A man was shot and killed Sunday in a hunting incident in Clay County.
Authorities identified Kirk Struve, 47, of Granville as the man who was shot. He was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was announced deceased upon arrival, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office stated a 911 call came into the Clay County Communication Center at about 11:10 a.m. reporting a man had been shot in a hunting accident.
Emergency personnel responded to the incident, which occurred near County Highway B53 and 160th Avenue in Clay County.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources indicated Struve was part of a larger group who had been hunting coyote.
The sheriff’s office stated Struve was shot while he was sitting inside his truck. The shot is believed to have come from another member of the hunting party, according to the DNR.
The accident has been turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, which is still investigating.
