Meth, marijuana charges filed after traffic stop in Spencer

Spencer police arrested three people Saturday afternoon for a range of drug related charges, including methamphetamine and marijuana possession, after a traffic stop.

A police news report states the traffic stop happened at about 1 p.m. in the 200 block of 11th Street SE.

The vehicle driver, 27-year-old Verity Garcia, Sioux Rapids, was charged with first offense possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors.


A passenger, 26-year-old Kirstyn Jones, Spencer, was charged with third offense possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony; third offense possession of marijuana, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor and providing false information, also a simple misdemeanor.

Jones was also served a Woodbury County warrant for violation of parole with a $20,000 bond.

Another passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Joya Salzkorn, Hartley, was charged with second offense possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor; second offense possession of marijuana, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; and providing false identification, also a simple misdemeanor.


Salzkorn was served a Worth County warrant charging her with second offense possession of a controlled substance, second offense possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a prescription drug. The bond total for those charges was $4,000.

All three were transported to the Clay County Jail without incident, according to police.
