An accident Tuesday morning that closed US 71 near Goat Hill south of Spencer for a couple of hours resulted in minor injuries.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to the accident at 7:48 a.m.
A sheriff’s office report indicated a 2010 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driven by Gary Kringen, 36, of Sibley, and owned by Bosma Poultry turned south onto the highway from 460th Street.
At that time, a 2018 Ford F-150 driven by Mellissa Berkland, 32, of Grimes, was traveling south and hit the rear end of the tractor-trailer.
A third vehicle, a 2018 Ford Expedition driven by Mark Fredericks, 59, of Hartley, was traveling behind Berkland and struck the rear end of her truck.
Both the F-150 and Expedition were totaled, according to the report. The tractor-trailer sustained minor damage.
The sheriff’s office report stated there were minor injuries in the accident but does not indicate who was injured.
