Accident at US-71 and US-18 results in minor injuries

An accident Wednesday morning at the north intersection of highways 71 and 18 in Spencer resulted in minor injuries.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 7:04 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office and Spencer Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision.

An investigation determined December Pomerenke, driving a 2012 Ford F-150 owned by Christenson Farms, was headed west from the stop sign at the intersection.

According to the sheriff’s office report, Pomerenke proceeded but did not see a 1997 Chrysler Concorde driven by Virginia Bergner, 83.

Bergner was driving south in the 3100 block of US-71.

Pomerenke’s truck struck Bergner’s vehicle in the driver-side.

The report stated Pomerenke was cited for failing to yield upon entering a through highway.

The F-150 driven by Pomerenke sustained $6,500 in damages, while Bergner’s Concorde sustained $4,500 in damages.
