Muddy road sends CCE school bus into ditch

A Clay Central-Everly Schools bus slid into a ditch in the 1200 block of 280th Street Wednesday afternoon, resulting in three juvenile passengers being seen by medical personnel and one being transported to Spencer Hospital for a report of pain.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported Dean Stein, 55, Fostoria, was driving the 2019 Thomas bus at 4:23 p.m. when it lost control due to muddy road conditions and entered the ditch.

The bus then tipped onto its right side and came to rest.

Stein was not injured, according to the report.

No citations were issued due to the road conditions. The amount of damage to the bus was not known as conditions prevented it from being removed from the accident scene at the time of the sheriff’s office report.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.

Everly Fire and Rescue, Clay County Ambulance Services and the Iowa State Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office.
