A Spirit Lake man riding a motorcycle in the 1000 mile of Highway 18 late Thursday afternoon was transported to Spencer Hospital with possible injuries after his jacket got caught in the rear tire sprocket and caused him to crash.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported Allen Tewes, 34, was riding a black 2016 Victory Vegas motorcycle west on the highway at 5:29 p.m. when his jacket got caught in the rear tire sprocket, causing the tire to lock up.

The rear tire began to skid and Tewes lost control of the motorcycle, which then tipped over and slid on its side.
