Iowa Lakes Trustees met Tuesday afternoon at the Spencer Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College and received an update on the five-year, $1.7 million, Title III Grant that was awarded to Iowa Lakes in 2016.
Through the Title III Grant, Iowa Lakes has continued to infuse active learning technologies into classrooms, while exploring advanced teaching methods with faculty, and piloting active learning simulation in the Agriculture and Nursing programs.
“We have received positive feedback and survey results from our Nursing students about our simulation lab and the unique training opportunities that are available at Iowa Lakes,” said Brotherton.
The TITLE III Grant is now in fiscal- year 3, will focus on additional agriculture projects and continued data analysis.
Additionally, Brotherton received permission to renew the contract for the Iowa Lakes Headstart program located on the Emmetsburg Campus.
In other business, there was a motion and approval to move the October Board meeting from October 15 to October 8.
The Board also approved changes to board policies 103 and 105. This change was made in accordance with adjustments made by the State of Iowa.
Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Community and Business Relations, shared information with the Board regarding the Future Ready Iowa Programs including details on the Last Dollar Scholarship.
“The statewide programs have been identified and each community college was able to select five high-demand programs to be included as well. It is urgent that students complete the FAFSA to be considered for the Last Dollars Scholarship program,” said Rogers.

The Heldt-Laker Memorial Scholarship Outing will be held in Estherville on Friday, July 12, and the Summer Commencement Ceremony will be held on the Emmetsburg Campus on Friday, July 26.
