Driver loses control fleeing from deputy; arrested for 3rd OWI

A Spencer driver attempted to flee a Clay County sheriff’s deputy Tuesday night but lost control of his car and was arrested for his third operating while intoxicated offense.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported Radley Gerritsen, 67, was driving a gray Mazda and traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone when the deputy tried to stop Gerritsen.

Gerritsen continued driving in an attempt to flee from the deputy, according to a report.

He lost control of his vehicle, though, and came to a stop 2100 mile of 380th Avenue.

The report indicated Gerritsen was intoxicated. He was arrested for OWI, third offense, at 8:37 p.m.

Gerritsen was also cited with speeding, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and failing to maintain control.

He was held in the Clay County Jail to appear before a magistrate judge.
