Teen cited in rear-end crash that injured 80-year-old

A 16-year-old Sioux Rapids male was cited following a rear-end crash Saturday that sent the other driver involved to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported the juvenile was driving a 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo north in the 4100 mile of Highway 71 when, at about 8:42 a.m., the car rear-ended a 2006 Dodge Caravan.

The minivan had been stopped, waiting to turn into a farm drive, according to a news release.

The driver of the minivan, 80-year-old James Barglof, was transported by Spencer Ambulance to Spencer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The juvenile was cited for failure to stop in an assured and safe distance.

According to the news release, both the Grand Caravan and the Monte Carlo sustained about $3,500 in damage.

Royal Fire and Rescue and Bud’s Service also assisted the sheriff’s office.
