Milford woman dies in car, semi head-on collision

A Milford woman died in an accident on Highway 18 Tuesday after the car she was driving collided head-on with a semi-trailer.

A press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Lori Hott.

The release stated Clay County dispatch had received a report Tuesday of a reckless driver who was “all over the road” west of Everly. A short while later, at 1:07 p.m., dispatch was alerted to an accident with injuries at the 100th Avenue and Highway 18 intersection.

When deputies arrived, they determined Hott had been traveling west on Highway 18 when the 2012 Toyota Camry she was driving crossed the center line. The car collided head-on with a 2019 Peterbilt driven by Eric Meighan, 35, of Ruthven.

The accident is still under investigation.

Both the car and semi were determined to be totaled.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the accident scene by the Iowa State Patrol, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Everly Fire and Rescue and Spencer Hospital.
